How Do You Optimize Your Map Embeds?

Before map embed optimization, you first need to embed the actual map on your website. You can do this in 5 simple steps:

  • Enter the location address
  • Generate HTML code
  • Paste code to your site
  • Add code on relevant pages
  • Map preview

You can generate the embed code for any Google Map. Enter the address in Google Maps and click search.

Next, click on the Google Maps Menu and click ‘Share or embed map’.

Now, go to the ‘Embed map’ tab and click ‘COPY HTML’ to copy the HTML code.

Finally, paste it into the code of the landing page of your website that you want the map to appear. This could be your GMB URL page, city page, or citations page.

Lastly, check and preview your website to make sure the map was embedded and that it shows up correctly.

A map embed of your company is the most common, but you can try embedding maps of other locations as well.

You can also have one for your county and even your state. For example, here is the embed code for the state of West Virginia, USA.

<iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d3179436.6160542523!2d-82.4251644740053!3d38.9029773971639!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x884a54a5d4cb0945%3A0xbb00c768decd3a43!2sWest%20Virginia%2C%20USA!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sin!4v1569595924403!5m2!1sen!2sin" width="600" height="450" frameborder="0" style="border:0;" allowfullscreen="">

As long as the embed applicable and relevant, you can add it to your site. As you can see, the width and height of the embed can also be adjusted.

Map embeds are a great way to give customers directions to your store. It also highlights nearby points of interest and landmarks so the viewer gets a better understanding of the surrounding area.

The embeds also increase dwell-time on your site.

If you are a service area business (SAB), then you can think about having a map embed showing your coverage area.

It could be circular in nature as a ring around your central location, or based on the ZIP codes you cover.

Having a map embed of a particular city on your city page is also a good idea.

You can add it to your homepage. Another good place to embed a map of your location is your Contact Us page.

However, don’t add too many map embeds. Not only are they confusing but they also take up more space in your site, than say an image, and too many will slow down your site’s load time.

One way to counter this is to add an image of the map on your website and then link to the map from the image.

Overall, map embeds are a local signal to Google that you are located in the area.

Note that you can’t share distances between places or your saved locations via standard map embeds. Custom maps work better for this.
